Propagation Station

Designed & 3D printed in Southport

Small beginnings.
A little wonder, every day.

A cutting from a favourite plant. A gift from a friend. The first tiny root that makes you stop and look.

Our sculptural propagation station turns those small moments into something worth displaying. Four glass test tubes sit within a twisting, root-inspired base—giving every cutting its own space, and you a front-row view of what happens next.

$65 · Station + four glass test tubes
Plant cuttings are not included. Plants in our photographs are styling examples.

Made here. Grown by you.

Designed and 3D printed in-store at Photosynthesis, Southport. A piece of living-room art, a thoughtful gift, and a simple way to explore how plants grow.

Use the guide below to begin with a suitable stem cutting, such as pothos. Different plants propagate differently; a leaf on its own will not grow into a new pothos plant without a stem node.

Your propagation guide

From cutting to new beginnings.

Botanical ink illustration of the Photosynthesis four-tube propagation station, showing a pothos node, a cutting below the node, and roots developing in water.

Illustrated with our four-tube station and pothos cuttings. The swollen joints on the stem are nodes—the places new roots can develop.

01 / Find the node

Choose a healthy pothos stem. Look for the joint where a leaf meets the stem, sometimes with a small aerial root. Using clean, sharp scissors, cut just below a node. Keep one or two leaves on your cutting.

02 / Water below. Leaves above.

Remove any lower leaves that would sit in the water. Add fresh water to a tube and place the cutting so at least one node is underwater, with all leaves above the surface. Sit the tube securely in the station.

03 / Give it light and patience

Place in bright, indirect light, away from hot direct sun. Keep the submerged node covered as the water level drops. Refresh the water weekly, or sooner if it becomes cloudy, and gently clean the tube as needed.

04 / Watch for roots

Rooting time varies with the plant and conditions. When several roots are a few centimetres long and beginning to branch, gently move your cutting into a suitable potting mix. Keep the mix lightly moist while it adjusts.
