A little guidance before you begin
No. This is a DIY kit to plant at home. The experience of layering and styling is part of what you are buying.
No. The tweezers and terrarium cleaner pictured with the kit are optional extras and are sold separately. Check each accessory’s current availability before ordering.
No previous terrarium experience is needed. Follow the planting guide, take your time and build a scene that feels like you.
Check the substrate and plants regularly, especially while the terrarium settles in. Add a little water only when needed; avoid waterlogging. A well-balanced covered terrarium may go for weeks or months between waterings, but light, ventilation, plant choice and room temperature change that interval. Use moisture as your guide, not a fixed calendar.
Choose bright, indirect light, away from direct sun and heating or cooling vents. Direct sunlight can overheat a glass terrarium.
Trim with clean scissors to keep the shape you enjoy. Remove dead leaves and take out larger plants when they outgrow the vessel. Suitable stem cuttings can be propagated for a fresh planting.
Look for small terrarium-suitable varieties of fittonia, Ficus pumila or peperomia. Ask your nursery for plants suited to a humid terrarium and choose compact growth. For WA, NT and Tasmania, source your plants locally; no plants or moss are sent with the kit.
